How do I set up the skill library and assess people?

An HR admin adds skills with five described levels; people assess themselves, managers assess their reports, and the matrix shows both side by side.

Quick answer

An HR admin builds the library on the Skills page — each skill has a name, an optional category and five described levels. People set their own level per skill with a note of evidence; their manager sets a manager level on the same page. Skills → Team matrix shows every person against every skill, manager level on top and self level beneath.

Setting up the library

  1. Add a skill

Click "Add skill". Name it, pick a category if you use them, and write what each of the five levels looks like.
  2. Edit or retire

Use the pencil to change a skill; "Retire" hides it from new assessments without losing history.

Assessing

Everyone with an employee record sees My skills at the top of the Skills page and can open Assess yourself. Managers and HR admins open a person from the matrix, or from the Skills tab on the employee's profile, and set the manager level with their own note.

Frequently asked questions

How many levels does a skill have?
Always five, from 1 to 5. The default words are Awareness, Working, Practitioner, Advanced and Expert; an HR admin can rename each level and describe what it looks like in your organisation.
Can I delete a skill?
You retire it instead. A retired skill keeps every assessment that was made against it and stops accepting new ones; you can restore it later.
Where is the team matrix?
Skills → Team matrix. HR admins see the whole organisation, managers see their reports, everyone else sees their own row.
