Quick answer

Go to Admin → Settings and open the leave escalation card. Set how many hours a manager has to act on a leave request — say 24 or 48. If they don't act in time, the request auto-escalates to the next approver, so it never gets stuck.

What is an escalation window?

It is a deadline for acting on a leave request. When someone requests leave, their manager gets it first. The window is how long that manager has before the request passes to the next level.

For example, a 24-hour window means the manager has one day. If they haven't approved or declined by then, the request escalates.

How do I set the hours?

  1. Open Admin → Settings

    Find the leave escalation card.
  2. Set the hours

Enter how many hours a manager has to act, for example 24 or 48.
  3. Save the window

Save, and new leave requests follow this window.

Who does it escalate to?

When the window runs out, the request moves up to the next approver in the chain — usually the manager's own manager. That person can then approve or decline it.

Request submitted → Manager (24 hours to act)
Not actioned in time → Manager's manager

The person who requested leave doesn't have to chase anyone. The system moves it along for them.

Why bother with escalation?

To stop requests from getting stuck. Managers get busy, go on leave, or miss an email. Without escalation, a request could sit for days with no answer.

The window makes sure every request keeps moving until someone decides. Employees get a timely answer, and nothing falls through the cracks.

Frequently asked questions

What happens when a request escalates?
It moves up to the next approver, usually the manager's manager, so it can still be actioned instead of getting stuck.
Does escalation reject the request?
No. Escalation just passes the request to the next person to decide. Nothing is auto-approved or auto-declined.
