How do birthday, anniversary and new-joiner wishes work?

Every morning the feed automatically posts a card for anyone whose birthday, work anniversary or first day is today — and, if enabled, emails that person a warm message from your company.

Quick answer

Each morning the feed looks for anyone whose birthday, work anniversary or first day falls on that day. For each one it posts a celebration card to the company feed (so colleagues can react and wish them) and — when wish emails are on — sends that employee a warm email from your company. It's automatic, per-day, and never sends the same message twice.

What happens on the day

Say Priya's birthday is today. The next morning:

  1. A 🎂 "It's Priya's birthday today!" card appears on everyone's feed — colleagues tap Celebrate and drop a comment.
  2. Priya receives an email from your company: "Happy birthday, Priya! 🎂 — Wishing you a very happy birthday from all of us at <your company>."

Work anniversaries work the same way, with the number of years included (e.g. "completes 3 years with us today").

When someone's joining date is today, the feed posts a 👋 "Welcome aboard, Raj!" card so the team can send congratulations, and Raj gets a short, warm day-one welcome email from your company — no experience or personal details, just a genuine welcome.

Turning wishes on or off

Open Feed → Settings:

  • Auto-celebrations control whether the feed cards post (birthdays, work anniversaries, new joiners).
  • Wish emails control whether the employee gets an email — separately for birthdays, work anniversaries and new-joiner welcomes.

Both are on by default. The feed card always posts even if you turn the email off.

Personalising the email

Each email uses your own editable template. Go to Documents → Email Templates and edit Birthday Wishes, Work Anniversary or Welcome (Day One) — change the tone, add a sign-off, whatever fits your company. Available placeholders include {{recipient_name}}, {{org_name}} and (for anniversaries) {{years_completed}}. If you never touch it, a warm default is sent.

Good to know

  • Only active employees are wished, and only employment types your org marks as celebration-eligible.
  • Birthdays never show the year — just the day.
  • Emails send once per person per day; re-running the job won't double-send.

Frequently asked questions

Will the employee get an email on their birthday?
Yes, if "Email birthday wishes" is on in Feed → Settings (it is on by default). Each morning the celebrations job emails anyone whose birthday is today. It never sends twice for the same day.
Does a new joiner get a welcome email on their first day?
Yes, if "Email day-one welcome to new joiners" is on in Feed → Settings (on by default). On the person's joining date the feed posts a welcome card and emails them a warm day-one welcome from your company.
Can we change what these emails say?
Yes. Go to Documents → Email Templates and edit "Birthday Wishes", "Work Anniversary" or "Welcome (Day One)". The feed uses your edited version automatically; if you haven't edited it, a friendly default is used.
Does the birthday email reveal the person's age?
No. Birthdays are matched on month and day only — the year is never shown on the card or in the email.
