Quick answer

Everyone can edit their own profile at /profile. Self-service fields — photo, phone, address and emergency contact — save straight away. Sensitive fields — name, department, designation, manager, employee ID and salary — are admin-only and locked for employees. Admins can edit anyone's profile, including those locked fields.

What can I edit on my own profile?

Open /profile to keep your own everyday details current. You can update these yourself, and they save immediately:

- Profile photo
- Phone number
- Address
- Emergency contact

There is no approval step for these — the moment you save, your profile is updated.

Which fields are locked for me?

Some fields affect official records, so they are admin-only. As an employee you can see them but not change them:

- Name
- Department
- Designation
- Manager
- Employee ID
- Salary

If one of these is wrong, ask your HR admin to update it for you.

Why are some fields admin-only?

These locked fields decide things like who approves your leave, where you sit in the org chart and how you are paid. Keeping them admin-only means only HR can change official records, so nothing important gets altered by accident.

What can admins edit?

Admins can edit anyone's profile, including the sensitive, locked fields. So when a person changes team, gets a new manager or is promoted, an admin makes those updates on the employee's behalf.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I change my own designation or department?
Those are sensitive fields kept admin-only so official records stay correct. Ask your HR admin to update them.
Do my profile edits need approval?
No. Self-service fields like your phone and address save straight away, with no approval step.
