How do I read headcount and adoption metrics?

Headcount shows how many active people you have and how they split by team; adoption shows how much your org actually uses ASHR.

Quick answer

Open Reports to see two things. Headcount is how many active people you have, split by department, location and workforce type, plus joiners and leavers over time. Adoption is how much your people actually use ASHR, like the percent who finished onboarding or applied for leave.

What does the headcount number mean?

Headcount is your total number of active people right now. Active means employed and not exited.

Under the big number you can see it broken down a few ways:

  • By department — how many people in Sales, Engineering, HR, and so on.
  • By location — how many in each office or city.
  • By workforce type — full-time, part-time, contract or intern.
Total active headcount: 142
  Engineering .... 58
  Sales .......... 34
  Support ........ 21
  HR & Admin ..... 12
  Others ......... 17

Use this to answer simple questions like "How big is Sales?" or "How many interns do we have?"

What are joiners and leavers?

Joiners are people who started in a period. Leavers are people who left. ASHR plots these over time so you can see the shape of your team.

This quarter
  Joiners: 9
  Leavers: 4
  Net change: +5 people

A steady line is healthy. A sudden jump in leavers is worth a closer look.

What does adoption tell me?

Adoption shows how much your organisation actually uses ASHR. It answers "Is everyone really on board?"

Common adoption numbers include:

  • Percent who completed onboarding (finished their setup steps).
  • Percent who have logged in recently.
  • Percent who have applied for leave through ASHR instead of email or chat.
Adoption snapshot
  Onboarding complete .... 96%
  Active in last 30 days . 88%
Used leave in ASHR ..... 74%

Low adoption usually means people need a gentle reminder or a bit of help, not that anything is broken.

How do I spot a trend?

Look at the same number across months, not just today.

  • Rising headcount with rising leavers can mean high churn.
  • Adoption that keeps climbing means people are settling in.
  • Adoption that dips after a busy month can mean people got distracted.

Check the reports once a month so changes never surprise you.

Frequently asked questions

Do managers see the whole company?
No. Managers see only their own team. Admins see the entire organisation.
What counts as an active person?
Anyone employed and not exited. People who have left are counted separately as leavers.
